I’ll journey to the end….

so…..it’s been a kinda a long time since i last wrote. what’s new, hmmm…. ok so after the thai new years and the brief but lovely expedition up to northern thailand my travelin buddy for a few weeks, Amber, had to make her escape to the motherland good ol’ osceola wisconsin. i stayed in bangkok for a week getting my visas all cleared up and ready to get my ass into laos and vietnam, and cambodia. then i went up north again and got some money stolen by some bastard thai people although it wasn’t too much, but i couldn’t do anything about it really, so i left their bastard country. now i’m in laos which rocks asia like it’s never been rocked before i can give you a brief little recap on my experiences here for the past week or something…. i took a two day boat ride down a nice river (mekong), where i met some cool people and had a bit of a party in luang prabang, then i wound up in a small city where i was the only whitey (muang khua) then another boat ride to a small village (mong noi neu) where i saw a local kid drown (actually i just saw him get pulled out of the river after he’d been under water for about twenty minutes, shitty), then another boat ride (nong kiew) then i was on a long and windy road (beatles song), then i went to another small city where again i was the only whitey (muang kahm) and saw tables full of prostitutes where i had to politely decline, then i met some students in the school near here and i agreed to help them practice their english, so when they came to my guest house we were practicing pronunciations and stuff although we had to speak loudly over the noise of the prostitutes doing what they do best, then i had to sleep in the room next to the prostitutes. so yes i taught english in a whore house, and it was good. today i got to a new city (phonsavan) where i’m not the only whitey and i went to some ancient jars that are in fields nobody knows why they are there, but during the vietnam war america bombed the fuck out of them. there are supposedly un-exploded bombs everywhere in the fields around here. america, fuck yeah. that’s my recap and i think that’s all i know for now. one little thing to remember is not to let a laos girl from a small village cut your hair when it’s wet, she may think you have straight hair like they do and cut it really weird and short, it may be a month or two before give you all a new picture, i now have the worst haricut in history. oh yeah, did i mention i stretched my ears and got some 8mm plugs put in? they’re pretty sweet.

Hey everyone look at me

yeah so…..I went to Angkor Wat which is actually made up of a whole buch of old temples that were built like a thousand years ago or something, i don’t know i wasn’t paying much attention, kinda like you people reading this. no not really. The temples were amazing as can be expected from lots of really old things, the buildings were really big and all made out of stone which has fallen apart alot but it’s still nice. if you ever get the chance to go it’s very much worth it, and cambodia is a nice place a little dusty, but nice. so anyway i only spent a few days in cambodia but i think i’m gonna go back in a few weeks, for now after another long day of buses i’m back in thailand and heading to the north for the thai new year, a festival where the people throw water on everyone at anytime for up to a week, yeah……I have more pictures but myspace only lets me put up 12 so i guess you all only get this one. that’s all for now, happy thai new year.

Holiday in cambodia…..

we made it to cambodia after a long, long process. i’ve heard they give cheap rides because they get comission on different things along the way, but now i’ve experienced it. after a late start, of course, we got on the road and almost immediately stopped for food at a restraunt not close to anything else, of course, but i resisted and got back on the bus for a few more hours to the border where they take you to another restraunt not near any others and tell you they will be processing your visa for you for the low price of $33……of course, at the border it’s only supposed to be $20 so no i didn’t pay. and i got back on the bus, me and amber were the only two who didn’t pay. then we get to the border and the group we were traveling with was allowed to go through about five minutes before us, we were told we would probably miss the bus because we had to get our visas, because we had no pictures they wanted us to pay $27, i said no, of course. so we talked the border guy down to $25 and we got our visas and went to get our passports stopped and who should be in line directly in front of us but the rest of our group, of course. so we got in with everyone else got on the bus and were wisked away into dusty cambodia. after a few hours we stopped for food at a restraunt that wasn’t near anything else, of course, and they were charging twice as much as the food cost in thailand and four times as much for water. so i got nothing, of course. then we finally got to siam riep and they took us to the partner guesthouse who pays the driver comission for bringing in a bus full of tourists and the whole time me and another guy were telling the driver we wanted to get out because we didn’t want to stay at their guesthouse, it’s the principal of the thing, but no, he wouldn’t let us out. of course. so we got to the guest house and picked up our bags and started to walk away and they were trying to get us in and look at the rooms but by that time i was having none of what they were telling me, about it being the high season and no other rooms and what not….so me and amber and two other people got a tuk tuk ride (for free, cause the driver gets comission) to a different guest house in a different area of town. the driver and the other guest house people were pretty pissed as we were walking away and telling us to get out if we wanted to go, so we did. and we have a nice enough guest house for $3 with a bathroom en-suite, and now we’re going to relax for a day before we go to the temples. we done well for ourselves, so now we’re going to eat, of course.

One night in Bangkok

you want to hear about my absolutly crazy day today….ok fine i’ll tell you. so i take the bus to the area where they have all the strip clubs, pat pong but i go there at like 10 in the morning just to see the area and there aren’t really any prostitutes at that time of day so it was ok, so i’m walking down the street and this guy stops me and says hi and asks where i’m from, i tell him america and he says oh good my daughter is going to america in a week, could i talk to you about america for a minute, he was waiting at a bus stop. so i say sure and i sit down with him talk for a minute and he says, oh by the way this is my sister a woman sitting on the other side of me, so i shake hands and all and we talk for a few minutes, nothing interesting but whatever. so then he says it would be really nice if you could talk to my daughter about america, he says she is going to be a nurse or something, so i say sure (why not? i have absolutly nothing else to do). so they flag a taxi and off we go…..there house was kinda nice and so i was hanging out for a minute or two and they were eating and they gave me some food it was good, then sure enough another guy comes home, shake hands and talks for a while all about my traveling and whatnot, seems harmless enough…..so then he proposes, since he feels bad that i’m traveling and i have little money that he helps me make some money, he’s a dealer at a casino on the border of cambodia and he can make sure if i go gamble there at his tables i will always win, we will split the profits later. sounds good right. so anyway we talk about random things and i think they are trying to size me up for how much i’m worth cause they keep asking questions about how much i spent in australia and singapore and stuff…..so i tell him i’m not interested now but maybe in a few weeks, before he said i could email him, so i ask for his email and say maybe later. then he says he can give me his sisters email cause it’s too dangerous for him to give his, i’m like sure, whatever. then he tells me i have to give a $500 US deposit and a few thousand later as an investment, i start to laugh at him, naturally. i’m laughing and i say, seriously? then i tell him i have about 1,000 baht and that’s all, i don’t carry my wallet or creditcard with me anywhere, i keep laughing as i tell him i wouldn’t give anyone $500 for anything. I explained how my budget for the past two months in asia was about $500 and i would never even consider it. so he sees he’s losing….so then he pulls out the emergency card, well really the reason i’m willing to help you win this money, he says, is cause his mom is sick in the hospital and she’s around 80 years old. really, i say, what’s wrong with her? oh you know, she’s old, her back, she needs an expensive operation….oh really, i say, that’s interesting what kind of operation, my dad is a geriatrician (old people doctor) i know all about this stuff (it’s true). so he doesn’t know what kind of back operation she needs, just that it’s expensive, i tell him i’m willing to help in anyway i can, just not with money. he asks if i can donate blood, i say sure why not, but i didn’t know my blood type so he said it wouldn’t help. so then the guy i went there with realized i was a lost cause and he said ok he’ll take me back to kao san where i’m staying, then we go outside and he says he’s also sick and needs to go to the hospital but he spent all his money getting us to the house (300 baht), which he did pay for, then he asks if i can lend him 200 baht for him to go to the hospital and i laugh at him and say of course not, i told him i wouldn’t be giving him any money it was his idea to bring me there. so then he flagged down a motorbike and i got on and left him there. you would think that’s the end…just a bit more. so i go a little bit and get off the motorbike and take a public bus back to pat pong where i met them, just to walk around for a bit, so i see one of these corner police station things and i figure i’ll tell them, just to let them know, you know. so i’m talking to the police for a minute and they just tell me not to talk to thai people, then another police comes and buys me a coffee and gives me a cigarette, then we hang out for a few minutes and they ask me if i want a massage and try and sell me a prostitue and a massage….it’s funny enough but i get bored and leave. and that’s the end of the story. then i walked home. you can all stop reading now….get some sleep

Where is my mind?

So i just had a really weird last few days so I thought I’d write and let you all know. It started after returning from my peaceful few days rest on a small island when i realized my visa for thailand was running out so i made a border run (very standard for travelers here), i went to burma which was just a boat ride away. when i got to burma i was surrounded by a bunch of kids who were probably around 10 or 11 years old and they spoke decent english, which is weird, but they were trying to sell everything from viagra and valium to cigarettes and whisky, it was actually pretty funny. in the end i just bought lunch. then i took the boat back to thailand and went on a bus ride to this other city which i just hung out in for the night. the next night was in another city called prachatburi and i was walking around at night when i heard some loud music so i went to check it out. it was a fundraiser at this buddist temple that is a few hundred years old, ok, but then why did they have a stage set up with girls dancing in some really slutty ways wearing really small clothes with an audience mainly of kindergardeners? and why was there some kids walking around with squirrels on there shoulders, squirrels with leashes? and what were the monks doing during all this, just hangin out checkin out the scene. weird. next day i went to another place called samut songkram but nobody i could find spoke english and nothing was written in english and it didn’t look that interesting, so i got on a bus to go to some floating markets, they have a few villages that they’ve dug lots of little canals through and they have boats they cruise through and sell things off of, so anyway. i was waiting for the bus and these girls were staring at me, when i got on the bus one of them followed me on and sat next to me then (with the help of the Lonely Planet book’s language page i found out she invited me home to sleep, ok. so anyway we went to the markets and she was paying my bus rides everywhere, then i just started to follow her and we wound up in some remote ass village where we took her motorcycle to a more remote place where her house was, or should i say her parents house. so i spent the night hanging with her and her parents, then this morning she brought me back to the main road and put me on a bus, now i’m here in some other place, i forget the name again nakon phantom or something. i’m not sure why she invited me home but it was nice to get to see some rural places. anyway in the next day or two i’ll be in bangkok, that should be interesting. ok i’m gonna stop writting now.
